One of the stronger candidates to lift Gillingham’s Player of the Year crown has today committed himself to a new one-year deal which will see him remain at Priestfield until the summer of 2020.
Barry Fuller, who surprised a number of people when he returned to Priestfield last summer has always maintained a high standard after his first spell at the club was cut short by injury.
And now following a hugely successful personal season the 34 years old defender has signed a new deal to keep him at Priestfield until the end of 2020.
In his first spell at the club, Fuller made 151 appearances in his four seasons which including captaining the side to win the League Two Play-Off Final glory following a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town at Wembley in 2009.
In his return season, the ever popular defender has made 38 appearances and scored one goal – an absolute screamer in the draw against Doncaster Rovers in October.
On signing his new deal Fuller told the official Gills website: “I am over the moon to be staying at the club for another year; I’m really pleased to have contributed to the successes of the team this season and I’m already looking forward to the next campaign.”
However, the focus now is to finish the season as strongly as possible and the team are very determined to achieve a top half finish.”
Manager Steve Lovell commented on his first signing for 2019/2020 – “Barry has been one of our most consistent performers this season and I am really pleased he will be staying with us for another 12 months.”
