Fulham v Charlton Ath Preview

Mixed reactions from Addicks fans about what they want from the game, some want to win, some want to lose, some want a replay.

For what it’s worth, my view is we are not going to win the competition, so enjoy the day but let’s focus on getting out of League One. A fixture pile up, coupled with the distraction of a cup run, could be detrimental to performances in the league.

Paul Dickov – whose Oldham side will be backed by 6000 travelling fans at Anfield – believes that the Latics would be higher in the table but for their cup exploits. As well as the Liverpool game, Oldham have the JPT Final at Wembley to look forward to.

On all known form Fulham, with whatever team they put out, should have too much in their locker for the Addicks. However, form often goes out of the window in cup matches and with a vocal 7000 cheering them on, Charlton will believe victory is possible.

It is almost impossible to second guess Chris Powell’s line-up. A great traditionalist who loves the FA Cup, Powell has admitted the competition is not his priority. The following matches against the Sheffield clubs will weigh heavily on his mind as he picks his team.

The last thing he will want is a replay, which could mean Powell opting for a fairly attacking side. Darel Russell is available but new signing Leon Clarke is cup-tied, having started in Chesterfield’s team that was beaten in the first round by Torquay.

Nick Pope has been recalled from his loan stint at Welling and will be on the bench.

Charlton could look something like this:

Sullivan; Solly, Taylor, Cort, Evina; Wagstaff, Russell, Hollands, Jackson; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Pope, Morrison, Wiggins, Hughes, Green, Euell, Hayes.

The vastly experienced Phil Dowd from Staffordshire will be the man in charge

Everyone wants to see Charlton turn in a creditable performance. Those wanting to progress to the next stage will be hoping the important first goal will be scored by the Addicks.
