Frustrations for Olsen
Frustrations for Olsen

The second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship was a frustrating one for Cooling’s Alex Olsen.

It was a case of two did not finishes and one points finish for Olsen at the Snetterton 300 circuit last weekend onboard his Global Roots BMW.

Blustery conditions meant it was hard work for all of the competitors on Friday and Saturday and it meant that it was an 18th place in qualifying for Olsen although he was moved up one spot with Andrew Irwin having to start from the back of the grid.

The strong winds remained for the 14-lap race but Alex’s race was over before it had really got going as a coming together with Andrew Irwin left him with damage and subsequently led to an early retirement.

Sunday’s first race, over the slightly longer distance of 16 laps, which meant thanks to his early retirement on Saturday meant he lined up on the ninth row and with a lot of work to do. It proved to be a tough race but his effort was ultimately rewarded with championship points.

Unfortunately, that proved to be his best race of the weekend as Olsen retired on the fifth lap due to the ongoing braking issues.

Speaking after the weekend Olsen, said: “It’s been a very challenging weekend again, unfortunately, and I’m still struggling to get the bike stopped, an issue that was heightened here at Snetterton due to large amounts of braking to be done.

“Every setting we tried during free practice just didn’t work and I was running on everywhere and although we improved the bike slightly during qualifying, it still wasn’t to the level we should be at.

“The second race was ok, coming through from so far back on the grid and we did find a direction to go in but perhaps went too far for the final race when I had to pull in again.

“It’s back to the drawing board but everyone’s working hard and Silverstone’s been good to me in the past so hopefully our fortunes will improve there.”
