Three former Gillingham players are World Cup winners after the England Senior team won the title in Thailand.
Andy Hessenthaler, Nicky Southall and Mark Saunders all starred for England as they retained the World Cup they won last year.
The trio of former Gills stars were instrumental in guiding England to success with both Hessenthaler and Southall having worn the captain’s armband throughout the week long tournament.
England were to go through to the semi-final stage having beaten both the USA and New Zealand, then going on to draw 2-2 with Scotland.
Having seen their way past Australia in the semi-final, England, captained by Hessenthaler in the final, went on to beat Iran 2-0 in the final with former Swansea City star Lee Trundle on the scoresheet.
Both Hessenthaler and Southall have stayed in football since retiring with Hessenthaler now Assistant Manager at Eastleigh, whilst Southall holds the same position at Maidstone United.
Saunders moved back to the West Country following his retirement, going on to manage Tiverton Town, before going on to be Assistant Manager at Exmouth Town.
