On Wednesday night relegation threatened Forest Hill Park host play-off chasing Croydon at Ladywell Arena in a Southern Counties East Football League Division one match.
Hosts Forest Hill have gone eight games without a win since the end of February. They didn’t have a game on Saturday, their last outing being a five-one home defeat against second placed Sutton Athletic last Wednesday.
It was tough on them as they were still in the game until conceding three in the last ten minutes including two in stoppage time. They were two down at half time but pulled a goal back through a Bryan Dakouri penalty five minutes after the break. Then came Sutton’s late show.
Croydon are seven points outside the play-offs with five games to go having had their hopes dented by a five-nil defeat at home to Bridon Ropes on Saturday. Mojeed Adisa opened the scoring in the third minute and Gibson Perkin-Donson added a second before half time. Three more goals in the second half ensured that there was to be no comeback.
When the two teams met back in October, Forest Hill enjoyed a come from behind victory. Josh Owen put Croydon ahead but Blessing Hombessa levelled on the half hour mark. Jason Johns put the visitors ahead twenty minutes into the second half and they held on to claim three good points.
Completing the double would give them a massive boost as they are eight points adrift of safety, but have played two games fewer. However, Croydon will have their own reasons for wanting a good result as anything other than a win would surely end their play-off hopes.
