Forest Hill Park 1-5 Sutton Athletic

Three goals in the last ten minutes, including two in injury time, helped Sutton Athletic see off Forest Hill Park to keep the pressure on league leaders Stansfeld OB.

Hosts, Forest Hill, are struggling at the other end of the table so the result was true to the form guide, but it was not all plain sailing for the visitors.

They got off to a great start and went ahead after eleven minutes when a long throw was only half cleared. Although Ijah Currie-Wilson received it with his back to goal, he turned and fired into the bottom corner.

Alfie Desanges looked certain to make it two with a close range header but Dillon Green made himself big and produced a point-blank range block. Four corners in quick succession caused the Forest Hill defence difficulty but they kept them out bravely.

Conor Evans fired over from a free kick before Tyriq Grant shot over first time for Forest Hill. They got forward again with a slick passing move, but Emmanuel Olayinka was unable to hit the target.

Dan Gunner got in behind the Forest Hill defence, but Green stuck out his right foot to divert it wide. Green’s feet came to the rescue again with a double save soon after, first from Currie-Wilson and then from Evans.

Evans had another opportunity from a free kick and went desperately close when his effort flew back out off the bar, but Sutton were not to be denied for too much longer. Evans was brought down in the penalty area just before half time and Gunner converted.

After the break Bryan Dakouri fired over for the hosts before James Sutherland had a shot deflected wide for Sutton following a great pull back by Tom Menditta.

Just shy of the hour mark, Forest Hill pulled one back. Dakouri was upended in the penalty area before getting up to fire past Joe Hyde from the spot. Jason Johns then came close to levelling when poking wide after a corner was not cleared.

Green made an excellent save to deny Evans before Forest Hill substitute Keanan Allassani cut in but shot wide of the near post.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Evans finally scored the goal he deserved. Green was only able to push out a cross and Evans took his time before placing it calmly into the back of the net.

Allassani curled an effort well wide before Sutton scored twice more in stoppage time. First Green made an outstanding save from Desanges, but it fell into the path of Jacob Kalonda to slot home. Then Desanges was sent clear to round Green and pass it into the net.

It was a tough ending for Forest Hill, and they will have to pick themselves up quickly to collect the points required to get them out of trouble. Sutton are now just four points behind Stansfeld but need the league leaders to slip up if they are to win automatic promotion.
