Folkestone came from behind and romped to their biggest win in the Bostik Premier Division in what turned into a somewhat bizarre but satisfying night at the Fullicks Stadium.
And this win took them back up to third in the table with what was their eighth successive league victory – which, at this level, may well be in a new club record in its own right.
Enfield had a goal ruled out inside the first five minutes or so, but still went in front when giant striker Simon Thomas head home almost unchallenged at the far post with just 11 minutes on the clock.
Without an away since August, surely that was never ever likely to be enough.
Folkestone’s pace had already looked good against a side they might well have beaten away from home before their opening game of this season ended 1-1 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium back in early August.
Loan signing Johan Ter Horst was sharpest in the box to slip a short ball for Ade Yusuff to somehow thread his low driven shot inside the near post to fire Folkestone level on 23 minutes.
Totally deserving eventual sponsors’ man of the match Yusuff latched onto a good throughball and with new strike partner Ter Horst making this look a terrifically exciting new strike pairing, Yusuff slipped the ball sidewards for his new pal to stroke it past hapless Town keeper Joe Wright barely three minutes later.
Enfield always looked dangerous in attack and, at times Folkestone’s usually flawless back four seemed to be struggling. But the visitors defence struggled from start to finish and their vulnerability was there for all to see when Sam Hasler’s 34th minute corner curled straight in to give Folkestone a commanding 3-1 half-time lead.
The whole ebb and flow of this game was disrupted for some 15 minutes when an injury suffered by referee Simon Finnigan led to a possible abandonment before an acceptable replacement on the line was found.
Either side of this interruption the visitors looked more than capable of getting back into the game and it needed two goal-line clearances within a few seconds to see Invicta’s half-time lead staying intact.
A clumsy tackle on Ian Draycott led inevitably to a penalty from Yusuff which unimpressive keeper Wright somehow kept out but it was not long before inspirational close season singing Yusuff extended Invicta’s lead with a terrific finish 17 minutes from time.
Invicta youth team graduate Ter Horst completed what, by then, had become a rout with an exquisite lob past the hapless Wright to complete proceedings for the night,
