Folkestone Invicta 3-2 Harlow Town
Folkestone Invicta 3-2 Harlow Town

Invicta climbed to third in the Bostik Premier Division table with their third win in four league games, but their first in front of their own fans at The Fullicks Stadium.

And, their only defeat so far comes into a better perspective as that came on the first day of the season at the hands of Enfield Town – who are setting a hot pace at the top of the table!

This was an eventful afternoon as Neil Cugley’s side scored three excellent goals, but conceded two soft ones and had last season’s top scorer Ade Yusuff sent off for disputing a booking 20 minutes from time.

Folkestone could easily have been two or three ahead by the time that Yusuff got on the end of a good ball in by Jerald Aboagye to blast the ball into the net on 22 minutes.

They would have been good value for taking that lead into half-time but 11 minutes before the break keeper Tim Roberts misjudged an inswinging cross-cum-shot from Harlow’s Jason Read, ducking under the ball which went over his head and curled into the net for a largely undeserved equaliser.

Invicta however, continued taking the game to the opposition and the again outstanding Kieron McCann grabbed his four goal in as many league games at the end of another good move nine minutes after the break.

And when the attack-minded Aboagye tucked home his first goal for the club just after the hour, Cugley’s side looked on their way to a comfortable victory.

But Yusuff became involved in an incident that earned him a booking from referee Lee Dyson, swiftly followed by a second yellow and then the red card dismissal 20 minutes from time.

Nerves started to play their part, but Harlow’s second goal of the game came too late to really threaten Folkestone’s victory which puts them in great heart for Monday’s home Kent derby against Tonbridge Angels whose 2-0 win at Margate takes them into second place in the table.

Surely Monday’s second versus third clash between Inivcta and the Angels has to be rated as the biggest game of the season so far in this division.

Manager Cugley has always asked his players to gain some consistency in their game, and the lively McCann has found that, duly receiving his second Man of The Match award already this season – those one from Invicta club legend William Webb.

Folkestone Invicta: Roberts; Aboagye, Blanks, Newman, Davies, Evans (Draycott 72), Hasler (Paxman 79), Dolan, Ter Horst, Yusuff, McCann.
