Scott Heard inspired Invicta to a three goal second half comeback as they started their holiday programme with an ultimately more than deserved Kent derby win over Tonbridge at the Fullicks Stadium on Boxing Day.
In a comparatively poor first half the visiting Angels went ahead on 11 minutes as Folkestone’s on loan Gillingham defender Finn O’Mara slipped trying to prevent a free-kick causing serious damage and Dan Thompson knocked the ball in at the far post.
Both teams had further chances inside the opening 45 minutes and midfielder Scott Heard forced a fine save out of keeper Jonty Henly mere seconds before the break.
But Folkestone shifted things around and Heard fired Folkestone level with an excellent finish just inside the hour.
Ade Yussuf fired Folkestone ahead from an impossible angle on 65 minutes and Ian Draycott smashed keeper Henly’s poor clearance kick back past him barely two minutes later to seal victory with 23 minutes left on the clock.
A league double over Steve McKimm’s Angels might just have ramifications in the Tonbridge boardroom while Folkestone look forward to playing old rivals Burgess Hill at the weekend before making the short trip to Margate on New Year’s Day.
