Substitute Joe Taylor produced a remarkable cameo appearance with two goals in the last 11 minutes that took Invicta up to third in the Bostik Premier Division, now level on points with moneybags Billericay and Margate – and ahead of our Kent rivals on goal difference.
Both of those sides have games in hand on Neil Cugley’s men, but let’s enjoy the feeling while we can, eh?
And at this moment Folkestone are the leading goalscorers in the division with 80 goals – two ahead of Billericay and three in front of play-off rivals Staines Town.
Invicta made all the early running as they again took the game to their opposition, as they often to try to do these days.
Rob Tolfrey clipped Johan Ter Horst outside the penalty area to earn a yellow card from referee Simon Finnigan when many felt the veteran keeper was lucky to stay on the park.
And Ter Horst was clearly fouled on the byline as he cut in from the left later in the opening half for what was surely a penalty on most days.
Key midfielder Sam Hasler went close with a terrific free-kick and had one of his best games for some time, but it took until three minutes before the break before Folkestone broke the deadlock.
Then Ian Draycott found Ter Horst on the right and Draycott was in the right place at the right moment when the low cross left him with a tap-in from barely a yard out.
Kingston huffed and puffed without really getting anywhere but it was not until Taylor replaced the yet again hard working but luckless Ade Yusuff 13 minutes from time that things started happening and Invicta made the three points safe.
Taylor scored with what may have been his first touch just moments after his arrival and pounced on what looked like an horrendous error from the goalkeeper to seal victory with his second goal of the game and thirteenth of what has been a strange sort of season for a player who was the club’s leading goalscorer last season.
This was only the second clean sheet in quite a while for Tim Roberts and his defenders – led once again by the excellent Callum Davies.
But when your team-mates are banging them in at a rate of knots at the other end of the field, who really worries too much about that!
