Folkestone Invicta 2-1 Lowestoft Town

Was there ever a game that you thought your side had lost despite dominating possession – especially in the final third – and then they produced a result that even Houdini would have been proud of to keep their current momentum going?

Invicta had produced some quite superb football in their last three games, especially just a few day ago when they could have beaten a decent Kent Police side out of sight but eventually took the three points in a 5-2 victory that sent home fans home almost purring with glee.

Against a cash-strapped relegation haunted Lowestoft side, Folkestone dominated play from the start but couldn’t find a clear cut chance to take the lead as the Trawlerboys defended in numbers – often leaving just one man upfront against as string of corners for the home side.

Somehow the visitors concocted their first real chance of the game and took the lead with a debatable free-kick swept in by Harvey Hodd  at the far side of the 18-yard box on 44 minutes.

It’s some while since Invicta went in trailing at the break, and though they threw everything bar the proverbial kitchen sink into looking for an equaliser, it was not until the last 10 minutes  that they got back on terms through the in-form Joe Taylor with his 16th goal of the season.

And it says a lot about the character of these players that they still went looking for a winning goal with time remaining and – to the delight of most of a crowd of 363 somehow came up with one final effort to keep Folkestone’s moving in the right direction.

Yet another set-piece effort saw the ball headed back along the byline by captain Callum Davies for Ade Yusuff to force the winning goal beyond goalkeeper Mitchell Ware, followed by jubilation among the home punters.
