What a strange animal this game of football can be.
At the start of the season, Folkestone struggled to win a game at home, but now it’s 12 wins on the bounce in front of their own fans, and this excellent victory over Kingstonian could have been far greater – with any semblance of luck.
The three points took Neil Cugley’s side back into the top six while the Ks’ expensively assembled squad crash five places down to ninth in the Bostik Premier Division table.
The home side had already had chances before the outstanding Ian Draycott’s intelligent ball forward send Johan Ter Horst racing into the penalty area only to be chopped down by visiting defender Aaron Lamont.
Draycott coolly converted from the spot to give Folkestone the lead with 11 minutes on the clock.
They continued to enjoy the better of proceedings and the lead was doubled as Ade Yusuff and Scott Heard combined well on the right with the latter crossing for Alfie Paxman to cut the ball back and man of the match Ter Horst rifled in Invicta’s second.
The Surrey visitors huffed and puffed without ever looking like getting back into the contest to any meaningful degree and, if anything Folkestone had the best chance of the rest of the game when Micheal Everitt’s fierce shot from distance sailed just high and wide of the Morrisons’ End goal.
Invicta’s away form has not been quite so impressive but that’s something that they can put right next weekend when they visit wealthy Dorking Wanderers in their new stadium for the first time.
