A penalty in each half gave bottom of the table Worthing what may prove three vital points at the end of their season while Folkestone must now have serious concerns over what has gone wrong in the past few weeks.
This was the only Bostik Premier Division game left on in this – hopefully – mini ice-freeze as matches at Brightlingsea, Enfield, Harlow and (Wingate &) Finchley were postponed.
The last thing that Folkestone needed was to give away an early goal, but within minutes of kick-off, referee Isaac Searle was pointing to the spot following a challenge from Matt Newman and Rebels’ top scorer Kieron Pamment fired the visitors into the lead.
While never quite being in total control Invicta mounted something of a siege on the Worthing goal without seriously threatening Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Covolan’s goal.
On corners alone this would have been a total knockout.
Folkestone had their chances to get back on terms before they did so through wingback Josh Vincent three minutes after the hour.
Joe Taylor and Ade Yusuff wasted good chances as Invicta tried to take control.
But a second penalty awarded by Mr Searle was to give the Rebels-cum-Mackerel Men all three points when Jaz Rance beat Invicta keeperRobert from a dozen yards.
Folkestone Invicta: Roberts, Vincent, O’Mara (Wright 79). Dolan, Davies; Heard, Hasler, Dolan. McCann; Yusuff, Taylor
