One defensive slip in an otherwise improved performance cost Invicta three points against high-riding and ambitious Dorking Wanderers at The Fullicks Stadium.
As so often, Invicta began brightly with Sam Hasler going close in first few minutes but when Tom Richards was allowed to run free on the right his shot flew past Tim Roberts and into the far corner to give Marc White’s side the lead on 13 minutes.
At the other end, Wanderers’ goalkeeper Slavomir Huk was to prove arguably their real matchwinner.
The Slovakian got down well to keep out a near post Hasler free-kick and then, almost on half-time, he blocked from Ronnie Dolan whose follow-up effort was cleared off the line by Robb Sheridan, an early substitute for injured Dorking captain Sami El-Abd.
The visitors, with top scorer Jason Prior left on the bench, rarely threatened again while the excellent Hasler tested the goalkeeper once more midway through the second period and Kieron McCann twice made his own chances, but each time the lively midfielder fired high and wide.
With new signing Finn O’Mara adding some much-needed stability at the back, this was a better performance from Folkestone but it’s now four successive defeats in the league with their last victory at Bishops Stortford at the very start of last month and their shortage of goals is something of a worry despite the introduction of all three substitute strikers at different stages of the second half.
