Folb backs Adams for success
Folb backs Adams for success

Lashings Chairman David Folb has backed Kent’s new Head Coach Jimmy Adams to succeed after a decade helping his international side.

Adams was appointed as the successor to Paul Farbrace at Canterbury on Tuesday afternoon after agreeing a two year deal to coach the side.

The former West Indian captain is well regarded within the game and Folb believes Kent have done well to secure his services after having had him play for his Lashings side:  “I was fortunate enough to listen into some of the team meetings when he and Andy Flower were in the side so I can imagine the impact he’ll have on a county side,”

“He believes in young cricketers and helping them through the ranks and Kent are very lucky to have him.”

“It always helps if you’ve played the game at the highest level, as he has, but he’s also got a great analytical mind and he’s terrific with people,” he told www.lashings.co.uk

Having agreed to lead Kent, Adams hasn’t ruled out featuring for Lashings in 2012, but told KSN that he would prefer to watch most games nowadays rather than being involved:

“I am getting too old to be putting the boots on and playing now, although I do still enjoy playing against guys more my age.”

“Some of these young fast bowlers are a bit too quick for me nowadays.”

“I can’t see me having the whites on and volunteering to do some fielding if required. That job might well be done by someone a little younger than myself!”

“I’ve loved playing for Lashings though and I certainly wouldn’t rule out playing for them again either at some point this year or in the future.”

“A lot will depend upon as to whether I get any spare time.”
