Fleetwood v Gillingham preview

Gillingham will look to put the disappointment of going out of the FA Cup when they head to Fleetwood on Friday night.

Steve Lovell’s side were beaten 3-1 at Carlisle United on Tuesday night and face another long trip north for their final league game before Christmas.

Going into the game, The Gills sit 19th in League One, just above the relegation places and will be hoping to repeat their last league performance, where they beat Bristol Rovers 4-1 on Saturday.

Connor Ogilvie should be available despite suffering from illness earlier in the week.

Bradley Garmston should be in contention for a place in Steve Lovell’s starting XI after coming off the bench on his return from a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s defeat at Carlisle.

Fleetwood pair Conor McAleny and Bobby Grant have both been training ahead of the visit of The Gills.

McAleny (ankle) and Grant (knee) have been sidelined since October but could be in contention for places on the bench. McAleny, who is on loan from Everton, is the more likely to be involved but both should be back in action soon. Manager Uwe Rosler has no fresh injuries or suspensions to contend with.

Since these sides first met in the Football League in 2012/13, Fleetwood have only lost to Gillingham once (W5 D2). The Cod Army have won each of the last three league games held at Highbury.

The Gills have failed to keep a clean sheet against Fleetwood on any of the eight occasions they have met in League One and Two (F13 A14).

Fleetwood are without a win in their last seven league games (D3 L4), and are on their worst run in the Football League since October 2015 (8 games without victory).

Gillingham beat Bristol Rovers 4-1 last time out, their biggest victory since November 2016 against Rochdale. They haven’t won successive league games since March.
