Fleetwood Town 2-2 Charlton Athletic

Charlton twice came from behind to snatch a draw at Fleetwood on Saturday afternoon.

Referee, Darren Handley, was involved in two late controversial incidents.
Jason Pearce sustained a head injury. Handley looked at the prone Pearce, put the whistle to his lips, saw that Fleetwood were in a dangerous position, and allowed play to continue.
The referee apologised to Russell Slade after the match for his error of judgement. Handley also failed to award what looked like a clear penalty when substitute, Lee Novak, was felled in the box.
For most Addicks fans, it was a first visit to Fleetwood’s Highbury Stadium, and most will have been impressed.
A good stadium, perfect pitch, friendly fans who mingled with their visitors in Jim’s Bar at the rear of the home end, and in David Ball, they had the Man Of The Match.
Slade made two changes to his starting line-up, with Ademola Lookman and Frédéric Ulvestad coming in for Kevin Foley and the injured‎ Johnnie Jackson.

Fleetwood took an early lead when a long range effort from Chris Long took a deflection and nestled in the bottom left-hand corner of Declan Rudd’s net.
The Addicks levelled shortly after the half-hour mark, when Josh Magennis headed home  a pinpoint Ricky Holmes cross‎ for his first Charlton game.
The Cod Army restored their lead a minute before the interval. Ulvestad was dispossessed, David Ball advanced and curled the ball home from outside the box.
Slade’s three substitutes combined to bring the Addicks level for a second time.
Jordan Botaka produced a bit of magic to slip in Foley. The Irishman cut in from the right, put the ball in a dangerous area, and Lee Novak applied the finishing touch from close in.
Charlton’s unbeaten run moves on, but  Slade will want to see improvement in certain facets of his team’s play.
