Charlton returned to winning ways thanks to a Tariqe Fosu hat-trick.
It was a good performance by the Addicks, and travelling fans had the added bonus of seeing Mark Marshall and Ben Reeves make their debuts for the club.
Karl Robinson had hinted that his team had picked up two more injurues, but Chris Solly was the only addition to the injury list.
With Solly missing, and Johnnie Jackson on the substitutes’ bench, Patrick Bauer wore the captain’s armband for the first time.
The Addicks started slowly but again took an early lead following a smart move.
Billy Clarke’s diagonal ball found Ricky Holmes wide on the right. Holmes’ pinpoint centre was headed home by Tariqe Fosu.
Charlton gifted Fleetwood the equaliser after 26 minutes. Ben Amos chipped the ball out to Jake Forster-Caskey, but it bounced awkwardly, and Bobby Grant latched on to it. Grant finished confidently to level things up.
The Addicks retook the lead three minutes before half-time. Jay Dasilva passed to Holmes who fed Fosu.
Fosu shifted the ball to his left foot and thundered home his second of the game.
Midway through the half, Fosu completed his hat-trick. He ran at the Cod Army’s back line from his own half, before netting his third with his right foot.
Mark Marshall replaced the injured Clarke after 52 minutes, and Reeves came on with eight minutes to go.
So Charlton ended their winless streak with a convincing win.
Robinson was naturally delighted and had this to say after the game:
“That’s the first time they (Fleetwood) haven’t scored two goals at home, so we knew how much of a difficult test it would be, especially after some of our defensive frailties of late, but today we were very, very good.
“The whole team deserves a pat on the back today. They were all great.”
