The fixtures for the 2014/15 season will be released at 9.00am on Wednesday 18 June. A day earlier, the draw for the opening round of the Capital One Cup will be announced.
The first round will, as usual, be seeded and regionalised. Charlton’s opponents are likely to come from one of the following 18 clubs:
AFC Wimbledon
Cambridge
Cheltenham
Colchester
Coventry
Crawley
Dagenham & Redbridge
Exeter
Gillingham
Luton
Newport
Northampton
Oxford
Portsmouth
Plymouth
Southend
Stevenage
Wycombe
Two ties from the opening round will be televised by Sky, one on Monday 11 August and the other on Wednesday 13 August. It is unlikely the Addicks will be involved in a televised game, they would probably need to be drawn away at either Cambridge or Luton to come into consideration.
Those who like to visit new grounds will be hoping to drawn away to one of Cheltenham, Coventry (currently using Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium), Newport or Northampton.
The close season seems to pass quicker every year and Charlton will be back in friendly action in less than a month now.
Before then, much needs to be done with assembling the squad for the new campaign, but the release of the fixtures is when clubs and fans alike, find the interest in the new season goes up a notch or two.
