Fixture update for Kent Kings
Fixture update for Kent Kings

A date has been set for the away fixture in the City Gearboxes National League [CGNL], King’s Lynn Young Stars vs. Kent SLYDE Kings. Kent Kings2

The fixture, which will surely be vital for the Central Park, Sittingbourne-based Speedway side’s hopes of emulating their top four finish of last term and qualifying for the end of season Gold Cup competition, will be held at the Adrian Flux Arena in the Norfolk town on Wednesday September 2nd.

Currently the SLYDE-backed Kings have 16 points and are in sixth place in the CGNL, two points behind their next opponents, Coventry Storm who lie in fourth.  King’s Lynn Young Stars are just a single point behind Kent with 15 points – but such is the bunched up nature of the league table as we enter the final month of the competition in September with no fewer than five teams (half the division in fact) tied on 16 points, the Norfolk side are currently on the bottom in tenth place.

Meanwhile, the club has moved quickly to rearrange the Tunnel Trophy match rained off on Monday (24/8), when a Biblical-style deluge waterlogged the Central Park circuit putting paid early in the day to the hopes of entertaining local rivals Arena Essex.  The match against the Young Hammers is now to be held on Monday 14th September.

This Friday (28/8) the SLYDE Kings travel to Brandon in Coventry for a third time this season having secured a draw there (45-45) against the Coventry Storm side in the Knock Out Cup quarter final and then narrowly missing out on the National Fours.  A win on Friday would move the Kings up to their highest position this season and into the top four at a vital juncture of the campaign.

The Bank Holiday weekend will then conclude with the inaugural staging at Central Park of the Kent County Fours when Kent’s top four (Ben Morley, James Shanes, Danny Ayres and Aaron Baseby) will take on quartets from Stoke, Mildenhall and local rivals, Eastbourne in the traditional classic 16 heat format ‘Fours’ event. The meeting on the Bank Holiday Monday (31/8) will have the earlier start time of 3pm (gates at 1.30pm).
