Five out of six for Ray
Five out of six for Ray

Bradley Ray from Lydd is most definitely the form rider in the Dickies British Supersport Championship as he made it five wins from six races at Donington Park at the weekend. Dickies British Supersport Bradley Ray. #28. FAB-Racing Yamaha.

It also means that he has been on the podium in ten of the last twelve races, and he has moved right into contention for the Supersport title with just two rounds remaining at Assen and the season finale at Brands Hatch.

The weekend started off well with Brad finishing the first free practice in second place on a wet circuit, ending only 0.694 behind James Westmoreland who topped the session.

The weather improved for the afternoon’s second session, and Ray impressed once again finishing the session in second place, only 0.201 behind Westmoreland.

Qualifying on Saturday would see Ray post a 1:31.779, only 0.048 behind the pole man James Westmoreland. Ray led the session until the final few minutes then the CAME BPT Yamaha man posted a faster time, leaping above Ray to grab the pole position.

Race one on Saturday afternoon saw Brad make a great start and began to battle for the lead in the opening laps. On lap two of the race he was pushed wide by a fellow rider and onto the grass but he quickly recovered and made his way through the pack, taking the lead on the next lap and started to break away.

The Lydd man continued his breakaway, consistently posting fast times and by the end of the race he crossed the line with a 2 second gap from second place man Taz Mackenzie, taking his fourth win in five races.Dickies British Supersport Bradley Ray. #28. FAB-Racing Yamaha.

By virtue of his lap time in Saturday’s sprint race Brad lined up in second once again for Sunday afternoon’s feature race, and from the lights he made a great start.

He held his grid position of second on the first lap as he chased down David Allingham for the lead, and then by lap two the ‘Bard’ made his way past and once again made a break on the rest of the field.

Lap five saw Ray post the fastest lap of the race as he continued his recent domination of the Dickies British Supersport class, eventually crossing the line in first place, making it five wins out of six.

After the weekend a jubliant Brad said: “I’m very happy, coming into this weekend our first aim was to keep in front of Taz and Westmoreland and pick up as many points on them as we could, but to come here and get two wins, be able to pull away and produce good lap times is a dream.

“I’ve got a funny feeling in my stomach we’re going to be fighting for the Championship at the last round, I’m not being big headed I’m going out and riding my own race so I can pick up as many points as I can to close in on the Championship. Like I’ve said I’m not aiming for the title, but we’ll see where we are at Brands and then I’ll use my head from there, I’m feeling good, I’m feeling confident and I’m ready for the battle for the last four races of the season.”

Ray is now only 32 points behind the Championship leader Tarran Mackenzie, and with 100 points still left to play for the Championship battle is going right down to the wire.

The penultimate round of the 2016 Dickies British Supersport Championship takes place in two week’s time at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.
