On Sunday afternoon it was as though the script was written for Team Hard and Team Principal Tony Gilham to secure their maiden BTCC victory.
As the lights went out on race 3 at Silverstone the rain starting to come down, and the team and driver Jack Goff took the gamble to come in and put wet tyres on.
That gamble was to pay off as the heavens opened further, cars were sliding off all over the place and with the safety car deployed while an accident was cleared. Other teams and cars made their way into the pits and Jack Goff picked his way through the pack with some superb racing and over taking all those who stayed out on slick tyres.
He then moved into the lead and that’s where he stayed for the rest of the race. Even when he couldn’t see because his windscreen had fogged up.
Speaking after the weekend, Jack Goff said: ““It started to sprinkle on the out-lap of race three and we made the call. It means so much to me, my family, our sponsors and the team. I couldn’t see anything.
“My windscreen completely steamed up with ten laps to go and I was driving through a little clear spot in the corner. It was so tricky. It’s unreal. I won my first podium with this team at Brands Hatch in 2013. It means so much for all of them. Things haven’t gone our way this year so I’m chuffed to bits.”
It was an emotional end to the weekend for Tony Gilham who has worked tirelessly to build up Team Hard to the race team that it is. The victory was the reward for all his hard work.
Not only did he have a Goff victory, he had Michael Crees finish in ninth place in the same race, his highest BTCC finish yet and Bobby Thompson rounding out the top ten.
