Holcombe vice-captain Rob Field has been named as Scotland captain for the upcoming EuroHockey Championship Qualifier tournament in Vienna, Austria.
Scotland will take on Croatia on 22 August (13:15 local time, 12:15 BST) for a place in the semi-finals where they could face either Ukraine or Lithuania on 24 August.
If Croatia win, Scotland would play a ranking match on 23 August followed by a final ranking match for seventh/eighth or fifth/sixth on the 25 August.
Should they progress to the semis, Jonny Caren’s side will play one more match – either the third/fourth-place play-off or the final against one of Switzerland, Portugal, Hungary or hosts Austria.
The winners of the knockout tournament will qualify for the EuroHockey Championship in Germany in 2025, Scotland coming into this tournament off the back of a shootout win and a shootout loss against Poland in two capped Test matches following consecutive 2-2 draws.
They also beat Czechia 10-1 in an uncapped Test match last week.
Amsterdam-bound and recent Paris 204 Olympian Lee Morton returns to the squad having scored three goals for Great Britain at the Games.
Head Coach Caren told Scottish Hockey: “I am confident the team we have selected will perform well at the upcoming EuroHockey Qualifiers in Austria.
“There is great excitement within the group to showcase what we have been working on as a squad over the past 12 months, since last year’s European B Division.
“We have grown a lot both on and off the pitch as a team during this time, which was reflected in how we conducted ourselves in difficult circumstances in Poland, finishing our last preparation game with a 10-1 win against Czechia.
“It was as close to a complete team performance as a coach could ask for. High intensity both in our pressing game and in our build-up.
“Great connections, especially in the final third and rounded off with a clinical performance inside the circle both in open play and in our attacking corners.
“We will take confidence knowing this performance has come just at the right time.
“As mentioned previously, I can’t thank the greater squad enough for their contribution this year to ensure we have a competitive team primed for competition.
“Those tasked with this tournament will represent Scotland and their teammates with pride.”
