With Bromley desperate to turn round their recent poor run of form they are back in National League action on Saturday when they travel up to Yorkshire to face an in-form AFC Halifax Town at The Shay.
The Ravens go into the game in fifth with 50 points from 32 matches, but they have won only twice in their last ten games, which has seen them slip from the top of the table down into the play off places.
Last weekend Bromley lost 2-1 at home to Barnet with a defensive performance that left manager Neil Smith fuming in his post game interview stating that teams don’t have to beat Bromley as they beat themselves with silly errors at the back.
The Ravens only goal came from Josh Rees, who on a positive note seems to have rediscovered his scoring form from his first spell at the club.
With a number of players coming and going in the last month or so the Bromley boss has struggled to keep settled side or shape, having played a back five away at Barrow. The Ravens then started with a 4-3-3 formation against Barnet before switching to 3-5-2 in the second half. Smith will be trying to discover a formula that can get his side back to looking like the promotion challengers they did at the start of the campaign.
Halifax go into the game unbeaten in seven, having won 1-0 away at Chorley on Saturday before winning 4-2 at home to Dover Athletic on Tuesday night with strikes from Jerome Binnom-Williams, two from Devante Rodney and an own goal, the victory taking them to fourth place with 52 points from 32 games.
The Shaymen will be keen to exact revenge for their 5-0 humbling at Hayes Lane back in October. Back then Bromley put on one of their best performances of the season to beat the early pace setters with goals from Adam Mekki, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, Chris Bush, Josh Rees and Joe Kizzi.
That defeat saw Halifax’s form dip going into November & December before they turned things around last month under the astute leadership of manager Peter Wild.
When the sides met at The Shay in April last season the game ended 2-2, Josh Staunton & Devante Rodney twice putting the home side in front before Luke Coulson & Richard Brindley equalised for Bromley. A similar result for The Ravens this time would be most welcome as these two play off challengers look to kick off February in style.
