Faversham made it two wins on the bounce but it must have been the half time talk that got them the victory. This was also the double as they beat VCD on the first day of the season. The game started with Faversham in control as in the 4th minute Danny Walder’s free kick from 20 yards went just wide, in the very next minute another Walder free kick forced Joe Many to tip over the bar.
In the 12th minute Luke Griffiths on the right crossed into the area where Carl Rook was, his header from 10 yards flew just over the bar. VCD were not in the game at this point but in the 21st minute they took the lead when Ellis Brown found Kemo Darboe in the area, his shot from 15 yards beat Simon Overland, VCD were now in control without causing many problems whilst Faversham were giving the ball away.
The last real chance of the half came in the 27th minute when Darboe received the ball on the edge of the area and his snap shot went just past the post.
Half time arrived and Ray Turner would have to galvanise his team to believe they could get something out of the game whilst Keith McMahon would want more of the same.
The second half saw Faversham come out with more purpose as in the 46th minute Mark Lovell latched onto a loose ball, from 15 yards saw his shot go wide but in the very next minute they equalised when Dan Carrington in the area saw his deflect into the path of Griffiths who from 8 yards out shot past Mant.
Five minutes later, Faversham were in front, a throw on the right was flicked on by Carl Rook into the path of Griffiths who from 10 yards curled his shot past Mant.
VCD were in shock and it took them a while to get into the game, in the 67th minute Darboe running from halfway got to the penalty area before shooting but Overland saved easily.
Two minutes later, Faversham secured the points when Walder’s corner into the area saw Ollie Lee’s powerful header hit the back of the net.
In the 74th minute it could have been worse for VCD as another Walder free kick forced Mant and Owen Roberts in combination kick off the line.
The game petered out to the final whistle and Faversham in the end deserved their victory, but what a half time talk that must have been, if he could bottle it Faversham would be climbing up the table.
