Faversham Town 3-1 Haywards Heath Town
Faversham Town 3-1 Haywards Heath Town

Faversham Town upset the odds with this hard fought victory against Haywards Heath who were second. This was especially good as they are down to the bare bones but this shows what a great set of players they have.

Haywards Heath came out of the blocks the quickest & in the 10th minute Josh Clark in on goal saw his shot from 15 yards come back of the cross bar & post then in the next minute Luke Robinson in the area went round Luke Watkins & from an acute angle his goal bound shot was cleared off the line by Joe Denny.

In the 20th minute Clark on the left cut in & his shot from 18 yards was saved by Watkins, Faversham were hanging on & then in the 32nd minute they took the lead when new boy Charlie Dickens threaded a delicious ball through for Manny Oluwasemo who beat the onrushing Billy Collings & from the edge of area dinked it over him into the empty net.

Five minutes later it was two when a Eddie Allsopp corner to the near post saw Dickens rise & head home his first for the club. This completely shook Heath but to their credit they kept going & in the 41st minute Tom Croman saw his 25 yard free kick go over the bar then in the first minute of added on time the score could have changed for both sides as first Hamish Morrison in the area chipped over Watkins only for Denny to acrobatically clear it off the line then with the ball up field Oluwasemo ran on into the area & his shot was saved by Collings.

The second half saw Faversham having to defend most of the time relying on counter attacks as Heath applied pressure as a team in Second place would do.

In the 61st minute a corner to the back post saw a header cleared off the line by Kelvin Ogboe & a minute later a long throw by Morrison caused a scramble in the 6 yard box before Watki8ns eventually got his hands on it.

In the 72nd minute Haywards Heath got the goal their pressure deserved when a corner into the 6 yard box was headed in by Tom Gilbert. Heath now threw everything at Faversham to get an equaliser but by hook & by crook Faversham survived & then in the 85th minute they wrapped up the win when Allsopp on halfway put Ogboe through & ran unopposed into the area before shooting past Collings.

As of last week Faversham had to endure 7-8 minutes off added on time but this time they survived with Heath only creating one glorious chance when a cross into the 6 yard box saw Gilbert on his own but his header was easily saved by Watkins.

The final whistle went & Faversham can now concentrate on next week’s game at Folkestone.
