Faversham Town upset the form book as they beat promotion hopefuls Burgess Hill Town with a convincing performance that defied the odds.
Faversham came out of the blocks quickly & in the first minute caused mayhem in the Burgess Hill penalty area with the ball bouncing around & eventually cleared for a corner.
In the 3rd minute Marshall Wratten in the area saw his snapshot go just over the bar. Faversham continued to press forward & make sure the Hillians defence were kept busy, then in the 20th minute in a rare attack Tom Chalaye saw his free kick from 30 yards saved easily by Pat Ohman.
In the 30th minute Faversham got their just desserts when Wratten on the left crossed to the back post where Marcus Elliott was & he headed it back across the area for Matt Bourne to head home from 3 yards.
Six minutes later they doubled their lead when Harry Harding’s corner to the back post saw Stefan Wright head in from 5 yards. In the 38th minute it could have been three when a long ball forward saw Elliott flick it on for Harding & his 15 yard first time volley was tipped over the bar by Will Huffer.
Faversham did not want half time to arrive as they had dominated the game with what fans stated it was the best 45 minutes they had seen this season.
The second half saw Burgess Hill start playing like a promotion hopeful team & in the 52nd minute Lewis Finney saw his 25 yard shot saved by Ohman but in the next minute Faversham nearly tripled their lead when Lewis Chambers put Harding in & his attempted chip over Huffer saw Huffer get the slightest touch to it enabling Harry Pollard to get back & clear.
Faversham were now getting control & in the 58th minute another Harding corner found Bourne but his header went just past the post. Eight minutes later Chambers dispossessed a defender & drove forward into the area but his shot from 15 yards hit the side netting.
Faversham were now in total control & Burgess Hill were now relying on breakaways as the game drew to a close Faversham nearly did get their third when in the 3rd minute off added on time Harding on the left crossed to the near post for Elliott & his curling effort from 6 yards went just past the post.
The final whistle went & Faversham celebrated a reserved victory.
