Faversham bowed out of the trophy with a brave performance against higher league opposition, having run them close for ninety minutes.
Haringey nearly took the lead in the first minute when Alfred Bawling in the area saw his shot go over the bar, Faversham had their first half chance in the fourth minute when Benedict Bioletti received the ball, ran on and from 18 yards saw his chipped shot wind assisted force Jon Miles to backtrack and push it onto the post where it came back out into the area and was cleared behind for a corner.
In the 11th minute Kelvin Ogboe on the left wing cut inside into the area, his curling shot went past the far post. Haringey were knocking the ball around without causing many problems while Faversham worked their socks off then in the 25th minute Jorge Djassi-Sambu in the area saw his shot go right across the area with no one on the end of it.
Then three minutes later Jamie Lee O’Donoghue received the ball from Bawling but from eight yards his shot went wide but four minutes later O’Donoghue scored Haringey’s opener when a corner was only half cleared and from 18 yards he shot through a melee of players beating Luke Watkins.
In the 34th minute Watkins kept Faversham in the game when Bawling on the left went to the by-line, his shot was saved.
The half time whistle went and Faversham were still in the game while Haringey were on the verge of reaching the first round of the FA Trophy.
The second half was only four minutes old when Haringey doubled their lead when a ball into the area was only cleared to Bawling who from 18 yards shot home.
Faversham looked a beaten side but suddenly they came at Haringey and caused them a few problems. In the 66th minute Sam Bewick found himself free on the right, raced forward into the area before shooting but Miles turned it around the post for a corner.
Another chance came in the 70th minute when Michael Hagen was found in the area on the left and his shot was saved by Miles.
In the very next minute Faversham got their reward and scored when a corner half cleared fell at Hagen’s feet, from 18 yards his shot took a slight deflection and beat Miles.
The rest of the game saw Faversham trying to get an equaliser with Haringey relying on counter attacks. In the 90th minute a low cross from Bewick saw everyone miss it as it went out for a goal kick.
The final whistle went and it was Haringey who were relieved to hear the final whistle as the hosts had been pushing for the all-important equaliser.
