Faversham came back to reality after Tuesday night’s thrashing of Shoreham, Carshalton came to Salters Lane & continued in their pursuit of automatic promotion with a hard earned win.
The home side came out of the blocks the quickest especially after scoring six goals last Tuesday as in the 2nd minute Bola Dawodu & Renford Tenyue combined leaving Dawodu through on goal but his shot was saved by the onrushing Billy Bishop.
Two minutes later Danny Walder headed forward into the area for Tenyue to run on to & his shot from an acute angle was deflected for a corner. In the 8th minute a Walder free kick into the area found Dawodu but from 10 yards he headed over the bar.
Faversham finally took a deserved lead when in the 12th minute a long ball forward was flicked on by Dawodu for Tenyue to run onto, once in the area he shot past Bishop. In the 20th minute Carshalton equalised when Mohammed-Idris Oluwaseyi’s low cross along the 18 yard line saw a foul given & a penalty awarded, a lot of people were taken by surprise by this but there seemed to be no Faversham complaints, up stepped Raheem Sterling Parker who shot into the bottom left hand corner.
Ten minutes later & Faversham had a glorious chance to regain the lead when Tenyue & Dawodu combined leaving Dawodu in the area on his own but from 15 yards his shot was saved by the onrushing Bishop, another chance came four minutes later when Jordan Wright on the right got a low cross into the near post where Tenyue was & his flicked effort from 5 yards went just past the post. In the very next minute Carshalton could have been in front when Christie Pattisson on the right wing saw his cross sliced over the bar by Ryan Cheek.
Two minutes later & Carshalton took the lead when a long ball forward saw Tommy Bradford lob Simon Overland from 15 yards, Overland raced back & tried to punch it clear but the Assistant Referee flagged for a goal.
In the second minute off added on time a free kick into the area found Dawodu whose flicked back header went just past the post.
The second half took a while to get going & in the 63rd minute Pattison on the right was in on goal & his shot from 10 yards was pushed away by Overland but straight back to Pattison who’s shot from 5 yards was saved by Overland. Both sides huffed & puffed with few chances coming.
In the 79th minute a long throw into the Carshalton area eventually ended up at Dawodu’s feet & from 5 yards his goal bound shot was blocked for a corner. In the 85th minute it was nearly two when a cross into area was met by Ola Sogbamu’s head from 6 yards forcing Overland to push it way for a corner, what a save.
The last half chance of the game came in the 87th minute when Walder’s free kick swung into the area evaded everyone & went out for a goal kick.
The final whistle went & the Carshalton players, manager & supporters went mad as this put them in second place five points behind Lewis with two games in hand. Faversham will have to pick themselves up quickly as they play Ashford away on Monday.
