Faversham Town and VCD Athletic served up a game that showcased the standard of football being played in the SCEFL whilst keeping both sides title aspirations very much alive.
The game started at a frantic pace with both sides going for it, VCD had a half chance in the 5th minute when the ball went just past the post.
Faversham had their first chance in the 8th minute when Nathan Wood found himself in the area, he twisted and turned before seeing his shot parried away by Andy Walker.
Four minutes later Bradley Simms long throw into the area came to Tashi-Jay Kwayie and his volley went over the bar. VCD started to take control in midfield and in the 19th minute Charlie Heatley saw his 30-yard shot go wide.
The game settled down after the start with VCD the better side with Faversham having rare chances. In the 34th minute Sam Hasler saw his 30-yard free kick parried away to safety by Walker then three minutes later it was VCD’s turn as a cross into the area saw Bethel Gbode’s header tipped over the bar by Jacob Russell.
The last half chance of the half came in the 42nd minute when a loose ball came out to Hasler, but he shot wide. Half time came and both sides would be happy with the score but would want a little more in the second half.
The second half saw Faversham come out a lot quicker than the first half and they nearly took the lead in the 48th minute when Hasler saw his 30-yard shot hit the crossbar.
VCD were relying on scraps and in the 60th minute Ollie Freeman saw his 20-yard shot easily saved by Russell. Faversham took the lead in the 72nd minute when Tariq Ossai crossed into the back post where it was headed goal wards, and a scramble occurred, and Nathan Wood was on hand to stab home.
Two minutes later Wood tried his luck from 20 yards, but it went wide. In the 77th minute Hasler’s 25-yard free kick went just past the post.
In the 83rd minute VCD got a deserved equaliser when a free kick to the back post found Ollie Freeman on his own and he headed past Russell.
Faversham nearly stole all three points in the 86th minute when a cross to the back post found Johan Caney-Bryan but his header was saved.
