Faversham Town 1-0 Sittingbourne
Faversham Town 1-0 Sittingbourne

Sittingbourne came away from Salters Lane in the Swale Derby wondering how they did not get at least a point while Faversham who were gifted their goal went above their opponents in the table.

The game started with Faversham having the first half chance of the game in the very first minute when Max Morgan latched onto a long ball on the left & his cross from the by-line was headed just past the post by Michael Freiter, it took Sittingbourne sixty seconds for their first chance when a long throw into the area by Lewis Chambers was half cleared to Kane Phillips & from 25 yards his shot went over the bar.

Faversham had a glorious chance to take the lead when a free hit low into the area found Anthony Adesite & from 15 yards his shot was blocked & came out to Mitchell Chapman who from 8 yards saw his effort blocked & then cleared. Sittingbourne were playing the better football but their final ball left a lot to be desired, in the 21st minute Tom Fagg on the edge of the area saw his goal bound shot take a slight deflection for a corner.

The game went quiet as both teams kept giving the ball away then in the 40th minute Donvieve Jones free kick to the near post found Chapman & his flicked shot was saved by Tom Benham. The only bit of excitement came in the 45th minute Cory Walter-Wright’s free kick to the back post was met by Fagg’s head but Luke Watkins saved it & then his clearance up field was knocked back to Benham but his mis kick went straight to Adesite who from 22 yards shot into an empty net. This completely shocked Sittingbourne as they had been the better side in the half.

The second half chances fell mainly to Faversham when most people thought that Sittingbourne would really have a go. In the 49th minute Chapman 25 yards out tried his luck but it went just past the post & then in the 58th minute Jamie Maxted wasted a great chance to increase the lead when Jones on the left saw his cross deflected into the path of Maxted who on his own from 10 yards out shot across the goal.

Sittingbourne first chance came in the 66th minute when Fagg 30 yards out saw his shot go wide. In the last 15 minutes Faversham had three good chances to score while Sittingbourne huffed & puffed their way to the final whistle with a couple of half chances.

In the 76th minute Maxted chipped through to Ryan Khanye whose low cross found Freiter & his shot from 18 yards flew past the post, then 7 minutes later Jack Sellens only just on put Khanye through on goal & his shot from just inside the area was saved by Benham’s legs & then in the 2nd minute off added on time Sellens saw his shot from 3 yards blocked by Benham.

The final whistle went & Faversham were overjoyed by the result while Sittingbourne were again wondering how this had happened but in recent weeks they had had the same thing happen in previous games.
