Faversham Town exited the FA Vase at the hands of fellow SCEFL side Erith & Belvedere in a game that the home side dominated but ultimately couldn’t take their chances, as the visitors capitalised to make the last 32.
Faversham started the quickest of the two teams and in the third minute a cross into the area found Tashi-Jay Kwayie and from five yards his shot hit the outside of the post.
In the very next minute Kwayie was put through and went into the area but his shot was saved by Charlie Cottrell’s legs. In the 17th minute another chance came Faversham’s way when Johan Caney Brown put Nathan Wood through in the area but his shot from 15 yards went just wide.
Erith’s first half chance came in the 21st minute when Tommy Whitnell 20 yards out saw his shot deflect over Jacob Russell and the bar.
Faversham continued to control possession and in the 27th minute Billy Bennett running forward saw his 20-yard shot go just past the post. Six minutes later Sam Hasler tried his luck from 25 yards, but it went just wide.
The last chance of the half came in the 39th minute when Hasler’s cross to the back post found Bryan who controlled it and shot first time into the side netting.
The half time whistle went and although Faversham had not scored Tommy Warrilow would not have been concerned as his side had control of the game and with a bit of luck they would score and go on to win the game, while Erith would be happy to still be in the game, hoping that they would get a chance and score.
The second half was only five minutes old when another half chance fell Faversham’s way as Hasler’s cross into the area saw Bryan’s header under pressure from Cottrell go just over the bar.
The game then went a bit stale as both sides kept giving the ball away without causing any problems. In the 70th minute Erith had their first chance of this half when Tyler Whitlock on the left wing received the ball and cut inside, his 25-yard shot curled just past the post.
Faversham replied with two chances in three minutes firstly Wood on the left passed inside to Kwayie, but his first time shot went wide then Kwayie was put through on goal and it looked like the opening goal was to come but Cottrell had other ideas as he raced out and smothered the shot.
In the 80th minute against the run of play Erith scored when Whitlock on his own on the left wing received the ball, ran into the area and slid the ball past Russell.
Faversham now threw everything at Erith but they held on and progressed to the last 32 whilst Faversham will now concentrate on the League.
