Faversham Town 0-0 Worthing

Faversham’s game against Worthing was on due to the 20 volunteers who came in & helped the groundsman get the pitch playable but they & the majority of the crowd went home disappointed as Faversham failed to get the win.Faversham Town

The first half started brightly for Faversham as in the 4th minute Darren Marsden’s free kick into the area was met by Matt Bourne’s header but Jack Fagan saved it.

In the 14th minute Luke Harvey on halfway ran forward & in a race with Mark Knee just lost out as Knee conceded the corner.

Another half chance came in the 21st minute when Brendon Cass received the ball 25 yards out & his shot went wide. Worthing had their first chance in the 24th minute when Omar Bulgeil on the left cut inside & went across the pitch before releasing Max Howell & his shot from 15 yards was easily saved by Simon Overland, a minute later a long diagonal ball out of defence found Cass & his shot was pushed around the post for a corner by Fagan.

The last half chance of the game came in the 37th minute when Howell avoided a tackle by Jamie Maxted & went forward before curling his shot wide of the post. Luke Harvey who was Faversham’s main threat was substituted in the 44th minute when his hamstring went & then the half time whistle went & as both teams trooped off you wondered if a goal would come bearing in mind the swirling wind & the boggy pitch.

The second half took a bit of time to get going but it was an improvement on the first. In the 55th minute Maxted marauding down the left wing passed inside to Marsden whose shot from 20 yards was saved by Fagan.

Three minutes later Renford Tenyue on the left wing saw his shot parried away by Fagan to Aiden Sherlock but his shot was easily saved by Fagan.

In the 59th minute Aaron Lacey had just come on & his long throw to the back post found Dave Botterill & his header from 5 yards came back of the post.

The best chance of the game so far came a minute later when Howell dispossessed Ollie Bankole raced into the area before passing to Brannon O’Neil but from 12 yards he blazed his shot over the bar.

In the 66th minute a Lacey cross to the back post found Botterill 15 yards out & his shot was pushed onto the bar by Fagan & then cleared. In the 85th minute another chance came when Lacey’s free kick into the area was flicked on by Botterill for Tenyue but his header was saved.

Four minutes later Tenyue on the left cut inside & shot but again Fagan saved it. Worthing nearly snatched the three points in the 2nd minute off added time when Lloyd Dawes went into the area & his shot was parried away by Overland across goal & Maxted got back in the nick of time & beat the attacker to it & conceded a corner.

The final whistle went & Faversham would probably feel that they missed the chance to get three points after dominating most of the game but lady luck was not with them.
