Faversham Town won this entertaining match, but Whyteleafe made them work for it.
The first 28 minutes saw Whyteleafe dominate possession & create a few chances of which thankfully for Faversham they only took one of them.
The game took a while to get going & Faversham had the first chance in the 9th minute when Sam Bewick’s free kick from 25 yards curled round the wall but past the post.
In the 13th minute Whyteleafe scored with their first chance when a long ball forward saw Daniel Ajakaiye latch onto it & shoot past Will Godmon, a minute later & it was nearly two when Ajakaiye was put through again but this time although he turned quickly his shot went past the post.
Ajakaiye was having a field day as in the 25th minute Lanre Azeez passed the ball to his feet but from an acute angle he hit the side
netting. Another chance came three minutes later when a cross from the left into the area saw Azeez flicked header go just past the post.
Suddenly the game changed as Faversham decided to join in & in the 30th minute a long free kick found Liam King who controlled the ball & then twisting & turning to get a shot away but it was blocked but in the very next minute they equalised when a quick free kick found Josh Stanford on the left wing on his own & his low cross was diverted into the net by Owen Roberts.
It was now Faversham in charge & in the 37th minute Bewick’s low cross found substitute Luke Harvey whose shot from 18 yards was deflected for a corner, a minute later the corner came over & Harvey on his own saw his goal bound header acrobatically pushed away by Ben Bridle-Card.
The half time whistle went & both managers would have different messages to give their players with Faversham now on top whilst Whyteleafe seemed to drop off the pace after 30 minutes so different messages would be given.
The second half was only two minutes old Whyteleafe nearly gifted Faversham a goal when Faversham old boy John Scarborough headed back to Bridle-Card but King nipped in & took it wide but unfortunately could only hit the side netting.
In the 55th minute George Monger put Substitute Renford Tenyue thro but Bridle-Card came out & smothered the shot.
Four minutes later Faversham took the lead when Jamie Maxted’s long ball saw Tenyue run after it & beat Bridle-Card to it & knocked into the empty net.
In the 66th minute another long ball from Maxted found King in the area & his shot cannoned back into play off the post to Stanford but from 15 yards out he blazed his shot over the bar.
Whyteleafe’s chances were few & far between but they were still pressing for an equalise which left spaces for Faversham to counter attack & in the 80th minute the woodwork came to Whyteleafe’s rescue when Dan Carrington put King thro & his low cross found Tenyue whose first time shot came back off the post.
The final whistle went & Faversham had won back to back games to push them up the table.
