On Saturday, Welling United are on the road again with a visit to Farnborough in the Vanarama National League South.

Recent results, along with others elsewhere, have seen the Wings drop into the bottom three five points adrift of relegation, albeit having played a game fewer.
Last Saturday they visited promotion chasing Truro City. Having gone behind in the second minute they levelled through Deon Moore and missed a good chance to go ahead before half time. However, eight minutes after the break, Welling’s task became harder when Dave Winfield was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Although Welling resisted for a while, their resolve was broken by a Truro goal with twenty minutes remaining before the hosts added a third fifteen minutes later. Although Riccardo Di Trolio pulled one back, it was too little too late and Rod Stringer’s team made the long journey home empty handed.
Tenth placed Farnborough’s recent drop in form has probably ended their play-off hopes. After a five match unbeaten run, they have picked up just one point out of nine and are eleven points adrift with eight games to play.
On Tuesday evening they lost two-nil at home to Boreham Wood. They went behind in the eighteenth minute but were still in the game before conceding again with one minute remaining. Two former Wings, Alfie Pavey and Lexus Beeden, were in the Borough fifteen for that match.
It will be the return game between Welling and Farnborough this season as they met at Park View Road in August. The Wings got off to one of their many poor starts when going behind to a Mason Bloomfield goal in the fourth minute. However, Anointed Chukwu levelled two minutes later.
By midway through the first half, Chiori Johnson and Gene Kennedy had scored to put Welling in control and a Josh Casey own goal, with nineteen minutes remaining, ensured that the Wings were able to see the game out in comfort.
Rod Stringer will probably still be without injured Johnson while Dan Martin remains a doubt. Dave Winfield’s suspension rules him out but the rest of his squad should be available unless anyone has suffered a reaction from training, or illness during the week.
