What a fantastic weekend it was for Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in the GP2 series at Monaco and it was rounded off with a sensational result in the Sprint race.
The 22-year-old from Tonbridge in his rookie season in GP2 finished second in the final race of the weekend at the most prestigious race track in the world.
Having finished eighth in the feature race on Friday afternoon Quaife-Hobbs started on pole position for the Sprint race.
He made a solid getaway as the lights went out and the rain started to fall once again in Monte Carlo as it has done all weekend.
Stefano Coletti made a storming start to the race on what is his home track and it wasn’t long before he was challenging for the lead. He bided his time and in the changing conditions he drove hard and made his move at the new chicane for the lead.
Coletti had just too much pace for the plucky young Brit who was excelling up the front end of the race for the first time since joining the MP Motorsport team for this season.
He did however have a mirror full of other GP2 cars right behind him and it was Mitch Evans who was doing the pressing but couldn’t find his way past Quaife-Hobbs.
The youngster held off his rivals to come home in a fantastic second place to add to his eighth place in the feature race from the weekend. He is now 11th in the standings with 23 points having netted 12 for the second place this afternoon.
By contrast it was a frustrating weekend for Jolyon Palmer as he came home 12th in the sprint race after not making it past the first corner in the feature race.
