Kent’s football clubs are urging fans to get out and support their local side as part of Non League Day this weekend.
With no Premier League or Championship clubs playing this weekend due to the international games taking place, football fans are being asked to get back to their roots and support a team close to home.
This weekend, Ebbsfleet United play host Alfreton Town in the Blue Square Bet Premier league with Liam Daish’s side desperate for a win at home.
Jessica McQueen, Ebbsfleet United Chairman explained why fans should get out and support local football: “ Non League Day is a real opportunity to showcase how exciting life can be at this level of football. You only have to look at how successful clubs that get promoted to the next level are to see that there is no real difference in the standard of football played. When you also consider that many of the players are also holding down other work, it makes the level of fitness and commitment even more to be admired. “
Keith Handley, MyFootballclub Chairman commented: “ The Society feels it is important to support Non League Day in an attempt to boost the attendance for the Alfreton game and then hopefully some may return to for some future Fleet games. The Kids for a Quid promotion is important for the club to build the next generation of Fleet fans. We are trying to get a meet up of members of MyFootballclub.co.uk on the day, and I personally am looking forward to meeting a member from Finland who is flying over for the game. The people at http://www.nonleagueday.co.uk/ should be congratulated for running this annual promotion of Non League Football. ”
Meanwhile, Bromley take on Welling United in the Blue Square Bet South league and the game coincides with the third consecutive year of “Non-League Day” and to celebrate the Club, with the full support of The Football Conference, will be offering half price admission for all supporters as well as “kids for a quid” before 2pm.
It’s pay on the day and turnstiles will open at 1pm with earlier access available from 12:30 at the glass door entrance to the upstairs suite. The upstairs suite will be open offering pre-match sit down meals from as little as £4 which include a nice hot cup of tea or coffee. Hot refreshments will be available throughout the day from the kitchen in the upstairs suite or from the Club’s new catering wagon located just inside the turnstiles.
Unfortunately, Dover Athletic’s game at Truro City was called off on Thursday night after the Cornwall side were unable to pay £50,000 to the Conference to keep them afloat.
