Essex vs Kent – Preview

Kent Spitfires will be aiming to register their third T20 Blast win in a row on Saturday when they travel to the Oval to take on Essex Eagles in their first televised game of the season.

Matt Walker’s side will be hoping to back up their thrilling one run win over Sussex on Wednesday with a win in London, but aiming to stop them will be a struggling Essex side.

The Eagles sit bottom of the South Group after four games and are yet to register a win in the competition despite winning last year’s version, and go into the game off the back of a 11 run defeat to Middlesex on Thursday.

England international Zak Crawley currently leads the way for Kent in terms of runs in this year’s competition, scoring 152 runs from four games so far. His partnership at the top of the order with captain Daniel Bell-Drummond has been vital for Kent, and the two have passed 50 together in three of the four games the Spitfires have played.

Fred Klaassen leads the way with the ball, taking seven wickets to date at an average of 22.00.

Ryan ten Doeschate leads the way for Essex with the bat with 104 runs across the Eagles’ first four games, with Matt Quinn taking six wickets with the ball at 18.00 apiece.

Kent have name an unchanged 14-man squad for the tie, with the Spitfires expected to name an unchanged XI from the Sussex game.

Sam Billings and Joe Denly are still unavailable for selection due to international commitments.
