Southern Counties East League team Erith Town stunned Bostik South Whyteleafe in the Emirates F.A. Cup to progress to the first qualifying round.
After drawing 1-1 at Whyteleafe on Saturday, the Dockers were involved in an incident paced 3-3 replay before taking the penalty shoot out 4-1.
Andres Tobon was lively, early on and his cross was headed over by Myles Keizer-Burrows.
Shawn Clement-Potter had a shot well saved by Adam Molloy in the Erith goal before Tobon broke free but his shot was saved at the near post.
Matt Pierson was again called into action scrambling the ball away from Ryan Golding before he was beaten by a 30 yard Tobon free kick that came back off the post.
Dan Palfrey took Erith’s next free kick just shy of the half hour mark and fired it over the wall and into the net.
Clement-Potter headed over with a free header from Jerry Amoo’s cross when he should have done better before Pierson made another save from Tobon.
In the 38th minute, first half penalty frenzy started. Jahmal Howlett-Mundle handled needlessly in the area and Ryan Golding fired home from the spot.
Three minutes later, Jerry Amoo was felled in the opposite area and Sam Clayton converted.
Another three minutes had passed when Whyteleafe completed a carbon copy equaliser. Amoo was flattened by Jim Day in almost the same spot and Clayton again tucked away the penalty.
But that was not the end of it as in first half injury time veteran defender John Scarborough brought down Aaron Jeffrey and Golding again blasted home from the spot.
It was always going to be hard to follow the first period and clear cut chances were less prevalent.
Amoo continued to cause problems and he had a shot beaten out by Molloy at one end then Day headed over from Palfrey’s free kick.
Just as it started to look as though Erith might hold on, Whyteleafe levelled when Howlett-Mundle stabbed home at the end of an amazing goalmouth scramble.
Tobon thought that he had put Erith back in front when Pierson fumbled his free kick but caught it as he fell back. The Erith players close by were convinced that it had crossed the line but the assistant referee was unmoved and waved play on.
One minute remained when Sam Long was stretchered off after a lengthy delay and both teams missed half chances to win it in injury time.
Scott Day headed home from a header across the six yard box in extra time but his joy was cut short by an offside flag despite his claim that it was knocked back
Clayton had a good chance to complete his hat-trick but Molloy saved then Amoo and Clement-Potter both fired well over.
Again Whyteleafe netted, but again it was ruled out when Amoo bundled home after Molloy had saved from Charlie Postance.
Both teams looked tired in the second period of extra time although Erith came close when Keizer-Burrows’ long throw was headed across goal by Golding but Danny Gannon headed wide.
Andrew Msungu fired one last long range effort for Whyteleafe but Molloy was equal to it and the game was decided on penalties.
Bilal stepped up and fired home for Erith before Clayton fired over for Whteleafe, Jeffrey converted for the Dockers but Postance also fired over for the visitors.
Adem Ramaden sent Pierson the wrong way meaning Amoo had to convert to keep Whyteleafe in it. Although he fired home it meant nothing when Palfrey fired Erith into the next round.
