Adam Coombes’ four goals put Welling United on their way to victory in the London Senior Cup at Erith Town.
Fifteen minutes had passed when Erith had the first decent chance as Harry Brickwood fired over from a half cleared corner.
That appeared to wake Welling and they opened the scoring one minute later. Lyle Della-Verde threaded the ball through and Coombes picked his spot from twenty yards.
Dean Morgan fired wide then Della-Verde shot over after being played in by Dan Walker. Adam Highsted made an acrobatic save before Danny Waldren had a header cleared. Then Walker then burst through but Highsted made another good save .
Liam Birks blasted over for Erith and Della-Verde twice did likewise at the other end.
On 40 minutes Coombes scored his and Welling’s second when sent clear by a long through ball.
Sam Hatton had shot saved before tumbling in the box in injury time. Coombes stepped up and completed his hat-trick from the spot.
After the break the floodgates opened at both ends. Coombes scored his and Welling’s fourth when firing in a shot that was too hot for Highsted.
Nelson Mitchell was then thwarted by a wonder save by Highsted before Coombes twice headed wide.
Nelson failed to get the ball away and Bradley Simms took full advantage with a fierce drive into the roof of the net to reduce the arrears.
Two minutes later, Ali Fuseini added a fifth for Welling after great work by Della-Verde.
Back to the other end and Simms set up Quinten Conteh to score for Erith but Welling went straight back up to the other end and Della-Verde finished from Fuseini’s pass.
Once again Highsted made a good save, this time stopping Coombes from adding to his tally.
Mike McKenna came close with a quickly taken free kick that came back off the underside of the bar with substitute goalkeeper Paul Agu beaten.
Agu then made a good save from Conteh before Morgan saw his shot fly back off the Erith bar.
Della-Verde brought a good save out of Highsted before finishing off the evening with a spin and shot for Welling’s seventh.
