Southern Counties East Football League football returns to Park View Road this evening when Erith and Belvedere entertain Punjab United.
Such was the Deres’ F.A.Cup success that they have only played four league matches to Punjab’s eight.
It’s almost a month since Erith and Belvedere won at Erith Town in their last league outing to maintain their 100% start. Previously they had beaten K Sports at home, three-one and five-one away at Tower Hamlets having started the season with a three-one win against Hollands and Blair.
For Punjab, it has not been quite as plain sailing. In their eight league games, six of which have been at home, they have only managed one victory and two draws.
They started the season well with a three-two victory over Kennington before losing three on the spin. Consecutive two all draws, at home to Rusthall and away to Lordswood followed but they now come into the game on the back of two defeats.
Three of Punjab’s defeats have been by the odd goal including a three-two defeat at league leaders Glebe and a four-three loss to third placed Erith Town.
Benga Ogunseye has scored six league goals in the Deres’ four games and Ollie Bate has notched three but Punjab also possess a threat in veteran striker Joe Vines who has claimed five league goals so far this season.
In the corresponding fixture last season, Punjab claimed a come from behind victory at Park View Road. Marlon Patterson put the Deres ahead from the spot four minutes before the break. However, ten minutes after the interval, Punjab were awarded a penalty of their own that Luke Adams slotted home.
Ten further minutes had passed when George Goodwin scored the winner with an absolute screamer.
