On Tuesday evening, two teams with big ambitions meet in the Southern Counties East Football League as Erith and Belvedere entertain local rivals Glebe.
Eight wins in eight games have put the Deres five points clear of Deal Town at the top after the first two months of the season. Visitors Glebe, one of the pre-season title favourites, are in fifth place.
They started slowly but are now moving in the right direction.
Tony Beckingham took over as manager of the Deres in the summer and has recruited well, with his new squad gelling quickly. Their defence have conceded just five times in the first eight games, and they have been the backbone to the excellent start.
They kept a clean sheet on Saturday which meant that Tyrell Richardson-Brown’s twenty-third minute header was sufficient to see his team claim all three points at Holmesdale.
Last season, they finished with Luke Rooney as their caretaker manager, but he moved to Glebe in the summer as their new player manager. His new team did not start as quickly with just one league win in their first seven games, but they have won their last three games to push them into the promotion chasing pack.
The Foxes were also on the road on Saturday and had to remain patient before winning two-nil at Welling Town. Harvey Smith broke the deadlock with eighteen minutes remaining, and Ollie Lankshear made sure of the three points with a last minute strike.
There will be a little bit of extra spice added by the fact that Rooney took some of his former Deres teammates with him and another former manager of theirs, Del Oldfield, is on the Foxes coaching staff.
The match takes place at Park View Road with a 7:45 kick off.
