On Tuesday evening, Erith and Belvedere and Bearsted take a break from Southern Counties Eastern Football League action when they meet at Park View Road in a Kent Senior Trophy Quarter Final.
Both clubs started their campaigns with home games in the Preliminary Round. The Deres defeated Welling Town two-one, while Bearsted beat Staplehurst Monarchs three-nil.
That put both teams into the first round. Bearsted had a tough game at Fisher, and it took penalties to separate the teams after a one-one draw. In the same round Erith and Belvedere cruised to a three-nil victory at Lordswood.
Round two saw the Bears hosting Rusthall and recording an impressive two-nil victory. It was less straight-forward for Tony Beckingham’s Erith side who were pushed all the way by Tunbridge Wells before they edged home by the odd goal in five.
Top priority for Erith and Belvedere is the league championship where they are table leaders, twenty-three points clear. Bearsted have alternative reasons for concentrating on the league as they are only one point above the relegation zone.
The hosts will look at this as an opportunity for cup success while a victory for Kevin Stevens’ team would give them a huge confidence boost.
The match takes place at Park View Road with a 7:45 kick off and the victors will visit the winners of the Punjab United v Hollands and Blair tie.
