After losing their long unbeaten record on Saturday, Corinthian bounced back with a comprehensive victory at Erith and Belvedere.

Although the Deres played some attractive football, the visitors had the greater cutting edge up front and their win took them to the top of the table.

They came out of the blocks flying and came close when Frankie Morgan just failed to hit the target at the near post when meeting Emmanuel Oloyede’s low cross.

However, it didn’t take much longer for the visitors to go ahead. Oloyede had scored a hat-trick in his team’s defeat on Saturday and showed his prowess with an excellent finish in the seventh minute.

James Hawkins shot wide for the hosts before Akeeb Adeyemo had a drive beaten out by Aiden Prall. However, the visitors again showed their finishing power when a half clearance found Oloyede who fired home from twenty yards.

Jamie Humphris had a low shot saved after George Humber pulled it back to him then, at the other end, Anibaba made a comfortable save from Ryan Sawyer’s shot.

Jack Mahoney made it three from close range from Morgan’s cross before Oloyede came close to completing his hat-trick when he spun and shot but he could only fire into the side netting.

Oloyede had another attempt but Anibaba pushed it round the post before Corinthian added a fourth before the break. Oscar Housego was the provider with a low cross and Morgan the beneficiary as he tucked it home from close range.

There was still time for one more Corinthian chance before half time but Mahoney’s shot was pushed over by Anibaba.

Luke Tanner charged down an Anibaba shot but it rebounded wide after the interval then the Deres’ goalkeeper made a good save from a Mahoney free kick.

Humphris shot over for Erith before Housego scored the best goal of the game with a superb shot into the top corner.

Six minutes later, the Deres reduced the arrears when the excellent Guy Mpungi created the chance and substitute Henry Dasofunjo finished with aplomb.

Minutes later Humber was brought down in the area by James but Humphris’ penalty, although powerful, was too straight and Prall was able to beat it out.

Erith had one last chance but Humphris’ close range shot came back out off Prall’s legs.

Although Corinthian’s position at the top of the table may only last twenty-four hours, depending on the outcome of Chatham Town’s game at Canterbury City, the performance should give them a boost in their challenge for the title.

For the Deres, it was a set-back but they showed enough, especially in the second half, to suggest that they should soon be moving up the table.
