Sunday football takes place at the Acclaim Handling Community Stadium, Park View Road when Erith and Belvedere host Tunbridge Wells in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.
Both teams came into the weekend placed comfortably in mid-table. However, whilst the Deres started it in tenth place, they were only two points outside the play-offs and their guests were one place and four points further behind. Either side, or both, could go on a strong run and compete in the post season promotion knock out campaign.
They are also both behind on matches played due to still being in the F.A. Vase, and were in action in that tournament last weekend. The Deres visited fellow SCEFL side Bearsted and a tight game ended without a goal so went to penalties. Erith converted all four of theirs while the hosts had one spot-kick saved by Charlie Cottrell and missed the target with another.
It took penalties for Tunbridge Wells to progress as well. They looked like they might be going out when trailing at home to Hassocks until Ryan Hine levelled with five minutes remaining. The hosts then went through courtesy of a three-nil shoot out win.
In the league, Erith have played six home games, winning three, drawing two, and losing just once. Away from home, Wells have also won three, however, they have drawn one and lost their other four.
There was no corresponding game between the two sides last season as the Deres were in the Isthmian League South East Division however, they have met in Tunbridge Wells in the Kent Senior Trophy this season, just over a month ago.
On that afternoon, the hosts won three-one after it was all square at the break. Regan Corke scored in the second minute but Dan Parkinson levelled for the visitors from the penalty spot six minutes before half time. Within three minutes of the restart, Wells scored twice, through Festos Kamara and Corke’s second and it was the hosts who progressed.
