England have named eight Canterbury players for this summer’s Junior Touch Rugby European Championships.
The international honours are spread across four England sides with the Men’s Open team calling on Vaughn Meredith, Max Howard and Matt Davis.
Two city club players, Rory Howard and Dan Mayall, will represent the Under 18 Boys team while Ayla Payten plays for the Under 18 Girls.
England have also included Daniel Eaglestone in the Under 18 Mixed team whole the club’s Touch Rugby co-ordinator, Tom Humphreys, is in the Senior Mixed squad.
The growth of Touch Rugby at Canterbury has been one of the club’s success stories and it has just been recognised by a grant from the Kent Sport Small Grants scheme which will boost development.
The non-contact form of the game has thrived under the direction of Touch Rugby co-ordinator Tom Humphreys who has made it accessible to a wide range of players of both sexes.
The new Summer Touch League season has started at the club’s Marine Travel Ground and runs through to July.
