Elliott is hugely respected in the game and his appointment will generate much interest in the club.

Of more pressing importance is Charlton’s game at Bristol City on Sunday. A deal to bring Southampton defender, Danny Seaborne, to The Valley on a month’s loan has been agreed and the player was signed on Friday morning.

Seaborne played 86 times for Exeter before switching to Southampton in 2010. Saints’ successive promotions have restricted the 25-year-old, Barnstaple born player’s opportunities this season and he has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League.

Seaborne is tall and more normally used as a central defender. He is naturally left-footed and like Hermann Hreidarsson, is comfortable in the left-back berth. Seaborne is likely to go straight into the starting line-up at Ashton Gate.
