They are through to the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup in India after a comfortable six wickets win over West Indies in their final group game at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai today.

England were asked to take to the field first and Katherine Brunt (2-10) made an immediate impact bowling Kycia Knight with the second ball of the game. But it was Anya Shrubsole who did the most damage taking three early wickets including the prize scalp of Deandra Dottin as the West Indies were bowled out for a modest total of 101.

The Somerset seamer was ably supported by Arran Brindle who also took an impressive three wickets for no runs from two overs before Shrubsole returned to end the West Indies innings in only the 37th over – and finish with career best figures of 4-21.

With regular opener and skipper Charlotte Edwards absent through illness, Arran Brindle and Danni Wyatt then put England on the path to victory with a 66-run opening partnership before Dottin had Brindle caught behind, and then trapped Sarah Taylor leg before wicket with her next ball.

After top scoring with 40, her highest in one-day cricket , Wyatt was trapped leg before wicket with England needing just 30 runs to wrap up the game. Dottin (3-20) then claimed a consolation third scalp before Jenny Gunn and Heather Knight knocked off the remaining runs for England to claim a six wicket victory with 15 overs to spare.

After the game player of the match Anya Shrubsole said: “We’re all really pleased with the win today and another good team performance.

“It was really good to contribute to the win, but we have a world class bowling attack it’s not just me or Katherine, it’s our spinners and the whole bowling unit. We’re a team, it’s not about one person, anyone can come out here and contribute to a win. We’ve got a lot of belief, in each and every one of us and we showed that again today.

“The length I bowled was better today, I think that just comes with getting into the tournament, bowling a bit more and gaining confidence from taking a wicket the other day and I brought that confidence with me into today’s game.

“The wicket did a bit all day, when Deandra Dottin game back on and Munroe at the end there so we were just focusing on getting a win and getting the job done.

“We want to go through to the super six stage with momentum and we’re gaining that with every game, we’ve had two really good wins, but we are always looking at what we can improve. We’ll look at this game and talk about what we did well and what we can improve on and head into the super six stage with confidence.”

Tuesday’s win was also a highlight for Kent’s Lydia Greenway as it was her 100th One Day International for England.
