Nevertheless, refereeing a game where there are fan protests is very difficult. On the footballing side, Deadman was barely noticeable, always the sign of a good performance by a referee.
He dealt with the beach ball and whistle situations sensibly. He did not take the players off, or request tannoy announcements, he kept everything low key.
Deadman refereed the game sensibly, and it passed without any real flashpoints.
