The Fleet came back from two goals down for the second home match in succession to take a point from this meeting with Wealdstone. With the goals coming on 86 and 91 minutes, it was one of the latest revivals Fleet fans have seen in recent years.
Harry Watling made three changes to the team that fell short at Forest Green which meant starting places for Rakish Bingham, Wes Fonguck and Franklin Domi as Jim Kellermann, Greg Cundle and Louis John made way.
The Fleet looked to make a faster start than lately and Ben Chapman delivered a deep cross from the right on five minutes that floated towards a dangerous position but Sam Howes was able to make the catch.
Aaron Cosgrave had his first chance to show what he could do in front of the Fleet fans as the 25-year-old sped down the left to whip across a very promising ball that flew through the area but nobody in a red shirt had arrived to get on the end of it.
Tom Dallison then hit a first-time effort off Josh Wright’s free-kick into the box but that one was wide of the mark.
Poleon got himself into a prime position with some good running at Jack Cook but the Stones just about kept him at bay. The visitors started to edge forwards around the 20-minute mark but Mark Cousins – like Sam Howes opposite him – didn’t have an effort on target to worry him.
Wealdstone lost two players to injury, with captain Craig Eastmond and Mason Barrett both leaving the field injured and a third sub came at half-time as Christian Scott also departed.
Aaron Cosgrave was on target with a low shot early in the second-half but Howes had that covered before Wealdstone had a great opportunity to take the lead through Alex Dyer but his effort was deflected out for a corner.
But the resulting corner on 58 minutes did end in a goal for the visitors. The ball came in from the left and it was Sam Ashford who scuffed it home in front of a busy goalmouth to put the visitors ahead. It might have been two when, nine minutes later, Cousins had to make a one-handed stop to keep out Max Kretzschmar’s goalbound effort.
But before long it was 2-0 as former Fleet man Alex Reid was in space to get on the end of Jaydn Mundle-Smith’s delivery, with a slight deflection not helping Cousins in reaching it.
The Fleet found momentum with 10 minutes remaining – substitute Kwame Thomas missed from a close range header before Ben Chapman’s low half-volley flew through a crowd and went out the other side, just wide of the far post.
But a late goal did come for the Fleet with four minutes of normal time remaining, Chapman involved again with a delivery that was fumbled by Howes, falling for a well-positioned Cosgrave to connect.
And as the added time ticked towards the end, Fleet were level. Josh Wright’s corner from the right was an accurate one and Thomas needed no invitation to turn the ball home as the visitors’ defence panicked.
